Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Our goal is a concise, comprehensive overview of intimate partner violence with these objectives:

  • Define intimate partner violence and its intersection with child maltreatment
  • Recognize the value of interprofessional communication and collaboration to provide intervention and services in cases of childhood exposure to IPV
  • Review history and physical examination needs for situations where IPV exposure is suspected
  • Identify potential pitfalls in a case of suspected exposure to IPV

Dr. Walker-Descartes is a board certified child abuse pediatrician and an Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate School of Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics Vice Chair of Education, Program Director of the Pediatrics Residency Training Program and Fellowship Director of the Child Abuse Fellowship Training Program, and Clinical Director of Child Maltreatment Services at the Maimonides Children's Hospital of Brooklyn.
