Children’s exposure to violence occur in a variety of ways:
- witnessing violence
- hearing but not observing the violence
- observing the aftermath (i.e., seeing bruises on the parent, etc.)
- someone else telling them about it
- the subtle nature of the violence may elude awareness depending on the child’s developmental age
