So why are we reporting this case? First, the disclosed events places children at risk. Details of what happened remains unclear. This lack of clarity of the events should not delay a report, as abuse has to be suspected for a mandated reporter to make a call. The child or children exposed in this event are nonverbal, placing them at increased risk for abuse. And with this in mind, a comprehensive assessment of the caregiving environment is indicated with the help of the resources that are in play when a mandated reporter makes a call.
